The procedure <\/strong><\/p>\n

In Belgium, victims of trafficking can benefit from special support and protection (Loi sur l\u2019acc\u00e8s au territoire, le s\u00e9jour, l\u2019\u00e9tablissement et l\u2019\u00e9loignement des \u00e9trangers, 1980<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Three steps<\/strong><\/p>\n

This procedure consists in three different steps.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. the humanitarian aspect: reception and support to facilitate integration in Belgium.<\/li>\n
  2. the administrative aspect: steps to possibly obtain an illimited residence permit in Belgium.<\/li>\n
  3. the judiciary aspect: judiciary procedure during which perpetrators may be prosecuted \/ convicted. Being recognized as a victim of trafficking leads to the possibility of claiming compensation for the harm suffered.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    To access this procedure, the victim must meet three conditions<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. to no longer be in touch with perpetrators<\/li>\n
    2. to be supported by a reception centre for victims of trafficking.<\/li>\n
    3. to collaborate with the relevant authorities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Only about ten children benefit from this procedure every year: many victims are not identified as such or do not meet the above conditions.<\/p>\n
